There is no easy answer to that question. The CORRECT answer is that it should be hooked up so that the end result results in a smooth phase and amplitude response.
That however depends on the quality of the design of the SYSTEM-not a particular driver or crossover type.
For example Danley Sound Labs make a fair number of 2 and 3 way loudspeakers. Some have the mid inverted from the low and highs-other have all of them in the same polarity-and others have all sorts of different combinations.
