I thought about how like you stick a metal dish in a microwave it causes a short, So maybe the energy fields around your home are focused around the stereo somewhat because of location, and all that metal?
Try this:
Take a common 4 foot long Flourescent bulb and just lay it loose right into the middle in your stack of electronics, play the stereo, turn OFF the lights.
Look carefully at the tube when the system starts acting up. Is it glowing even a little bit? Then you have radiated energy flowing around through and into your equipment.I do not know if the energy will be enough to cause the flourescent bulb to glow, (discharge}... BUT if it does THEN you got the problem in hand.
To find out more if the tube glows.. i would do some Google research on EMF.. and I am certain it is illegal for companies to spew it into a home. there may be more sophisticated means to find radiant EMF microwaves.. but i am certain the flourescent tube IS one of those ways.. though a primitive one. (At least you can try it nearly for free! and not look too silly doing it. if I were doing it, I might try a long tube 4 footer, and a small one like a one footer.)
Good luck.
Another device that might respond is one of those sealed bulb black/ white vaned things that turn in the sun.. Science kids type toy. I am not certain.. but that might be sensitive to the fields.. Worth a try If the flourescent tubes do not work?
Also, ham radio shops have devices for finding radiated microwaves, or at least radio waves.. as they have to NOt let there antennas and wires leak to much in the wrong places.
