You can source these off ebay for under 100 dollars. Look for single phase, 480/240 to 240/120 general purpose transformers. Can be indoor or outdoor.
I use a 5 kva and a 3 kva. The 5 is for my tube monoblocks and tube pre. The 3 for cdp and dac.
You can feed them with 240v or 120v, your choice. If wiring with 240v input, then use the 480v wiring diagram on primary side and 240v wiring on the secondary side. If wiring with 120v input, then hook it up using the 240v wiring diagram in and the 240 wiring diagram out. New electrical code stipulates secondary side circuit breakers and gfi protection. Be careful with your wiring and if you aren't sure, ask or get an electrician to inspect it to make sure it's cool. (Most electricians aren't familiar with this wiring method so expect a lot of questions. National Electric Code Article 647) It's not hard to do and the benefits are worth the time and money.
