Need to calc dropping resistor

I have a wall wart that was supposed to be 6VDC but when I measured it I got a reading of 9.75VDC One volt higher I imagine is ok but note 3.75VDC.

How would I calculate the value and wattage of a dropping resistor to bring it down to no more than 7VDC.
