Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

So I was reading about HiFI Tuning fuses and their dialectric and dampening qualities when I remembered reading about the plumbers tape on the AC cord prong trick. This got me thinking what if I wrapped my stock fuses in plumbers tape. What is a fuse anyway.... an electrode in a glass tube. We put dampeners on our Tubes. And a fuse is just a smaller simpler tube in the power supply.
So I tried it. I wrapped the glass tube with about 4 layers of tightly wound plumbers tape. Being sure to just slightly overlap the metal caps on the ends just enough so that it doesn't interfere with the contact of the fuse holder.
So for I've only tried it on my Acoustat Servo amps. I think it made a slight improvement but it's hard to A/B since I have to completely power down (5kv-dc bias!). I may try it on some other components today.
I tried searching the older posts for something like this but came up empty handed.
Has anyone else tried this?
Would anyone like to try it and post their findings?
Am I completely out there on this one? I'm a tweaker at heart but mostly stick with the tangible.
