Putting in a bypass cap(usually a film type) will lower the ESR of the main cap. The fact that you used a NP to a polar cap has nothing to do with the sonics of what you are experiencing. It is more than probable, the quality of the cap. A bypass cap will let higher frequency AC signal pass easier. It can also mess things up like the time constants and phasing so don't be fooled if you do a bypass and don't like it. Lot of theories on the bypass cap issue. The value should be no more than 1/10 the value of the main cap. Where that 10UF cap is I would use a film cap there. It would sound a whole lot betterer.
