I live in a geodesic dome. A couple of years ago we started redoing things. I used this material because it has an R-3 rating. We definitely saw the difference in electicity used during the heating season since then. It does a bit of damping and the room does have less echo. I got the powder and mixed it into the standard interior latex we used. It does have a bit of build, You get a softer surface than usual. I wouldn't use it where it can be touched
It is not really thick, I used a roller to do my ceiling, which is more than half of my house.
