I made a DIY from their butcher block counter top material, the stuff that's about 1 1/16" thick. I used 1" threaded steel rod for the uprights (4 legs) with large hex nuts and rubber washers to hold the shelves in place. I could also have used Herbie's grunge-buster washers but I didn't know about them when I made the rack. I'm not inclined to disassemble it now and experiment with Herbie's.... I use his Footers and Iso cups elsewhere in my tube system with great results.
I had a cabinet maker cut the wood to size (this stuff is very tough to cut straight, clean, and true, without a proper saw) and he used a drill press to make the holes for the uprights. It's easy to level the shelves as you assemble. The hardest part of this project was resourcing the materials.
I applied a few coats of clear finish to the shelves. The threaded rods are zinc plated, not painted, although you could do that. It looks great, is quite heavy and very solid, and is precisely the size I needed. I also had a local machine shop tap the legs to 1/4-20 so I could use my old tiptoes.
Total cost of the project was about $375, and I wound up with two racks. The larger for audio, and smaller one for video.
HTH.
