I built JR's Room Lens clones a few months ago, after a mate of mine had done this and raved about them. They make a major improvement to my Maggie setup (in an 8m x 5m room) ... the soundstage deepened and the speakers almost disappeared! :-)) I have them located where the reflection from the ribbons off the front wall would hit my ears.
I'd be very interested in hearing more about your experiments with 4 & 8 tube Lenses. Jon did say in an email to me that he thought the original mfr's claim that its Helmholtz resonance did any good was a bit suss ... but I can confirm the diffusion aspect works fine. :-))
