I own Mapleshade stuff and it is wonderful. However, you can get 90% of the way there for half the price if you order maple butcher block from AWP Butcher Block (270-786-2319), which has really great product for a great price. All the other needed hardware is available from McMaster-Cabot (330-342-6100), again with great prices. Both companies are easily Googled for their homepages.
The advantages of a heavy maple rack cannot be overstated! Use Mapleshade carpet-piercing footers for feet (3/8-16 tapped, same as the threaded 1 1/4" steel rod you'll be using) and you're all set. Make sure the holes drilled in the maple boards are at least a 1/16th bigger than the diameter of the rod you are using, for ease of assembly. I advise you to take the time and Elmer's glue some felt on the wood contacting side of the huge washers you'll need to clamp the maple boards between the nuts you'll use to tighten things down with. This will help stop the maple finish from being marred and scratched by the washers being torqued down by the nuts (top and bottom) used for compression. Go to Mapleshade's catalog and check the parts list for the size Samson you desire. If you don't want to DIY, then go with Mapleshade's stuff. Pierre's products may not be cheap, but they are always excellent in form and function, and you won't be dissatisfied with the end result!
