Two tried and true methods of extending wire that have stood the test of time and reliability.
1: a terminal strip. land all three conductors under one side and screw down tightly to the strip. Do the same with the wire extension.
2: Make a "bug" by crimping ring lugs on the ends of the conductors. Bolt the ring lugs together and wrap tightly with electrical tape.
