RE: Quick & dirty bass traps question

I suspect the reason is twofold: protect you from fiberglass, and keep the batting rolled tightly to the right density. You can use it if the bag has a rip, believe me. I just did!

I've had a couple of these raw bagged rolled fiberglass hidden in a couple of corners for years and they do indeed help. Today I decided to add another one. Only ones at HD were ripped bags, but they are not so ripped that the roll unfurls in any way.

Guess what. The sound improved markedly with the third bag in the same corner with one of the originals behind a stuffed chair. In fact, not only did the bass tighten up considerably, but the rest of the spectrum sounds better now too - must be a matter of balance OR the bags do a broader spectrum job than I thought.

Go try it rolled, but ripped first. See how that sounds to you. Then try it with the garbage bag on top and see what difference it makes.

The plastic does reflect some freqs, but not so much the LF as the mids or higher, I recall. If it reflected the LF, then they wouldn't work at all as bass traps.
