Don't even consider just trying it unless you are very sure, you can easily destroy the unit. Just how much smoke depends upon the capacity of the power supply.
The notion that low voltage=safety is only true when touching it due to skin resistance. What really matters is the power that can be delivered.
I suggest that CJ go short out his car battery with a #8 wire and report back once his hands heal up.
