I cannot make any recommendations on AC outlets as the ones I have
seem adequate. I CAN relate observations based on examination of
a great number of electrical distribution systems with a thermal imaging
unit (available from Sony at around $50K). The levels of heat given
off by all sorts of wiring downstream from a poor/loose connection
can be SCARY! A high resistance connection (which seems quite likely
with an iffy outlet) can not only be a problem from an audible standpoint,
but can also be a fire hazard! Have personally witnessed the power chord
of a soda can dispensing machine go up in smoke due to such a bad plug/
outlet. A similar connection for an amplifier or other stereo gear
could well have very significant and audible problems.
