I'm running my cabling per Magnepan's bi-amping instructions. From the preamp to the XO-1 crossover and then 2 sets of interconnects to the bass amp and to the mid/tweeter amp. The speaker cables then go from the
bass amp to the external crossover then the jumper to the speaker, while
the mid/tweeter amp speaker cable goes directly to the speaker connection
bypassing the external crossover. The XO-1 was configured with the
cap supplied (free from Magnepan 12 years later!) for my power amp. I
have been told that an electronic crossover would greatly improve the sound
but at around $1,000 and up I don't want to invest that. I do know when
I bi-amped the IIIa a few months back there was a significant improvment,
due to the doubling the power available (I went from a very conservatively
rated 50 WPC amp to two of the same) and to an increased clarity from
the crossover change.
