Some people just don't like the "ferrite" sound. I find that they don't work well on amp power cords (restricted sounding), but they do OK on unshielded IC's. Never tried 'em on source power cords, but I'll have to give it a try.When I first got my ferrites, I slapped 'em on everything, and learned the hard way ("Bleah! What happened?") that some components don't seem to work well with them.
Experimentation is the key here, it's mostly personal preference. Good luck!
