Surprisingly, the carbon fiber unit has a very smooth top end rolloff... better than the aerogel. There's a dip around 2k, which is where I'd crossover, but no peak above reference after that. I wish I knew if this were a pure carbon fiber or a treated (polymer) cone. It does have a soft polymer dust cap, and I've noticed that dust caps really affect the top end.I looked for other drivers that might work for this project and came up with only three decent looking options for an aperiodic box with the extension I want. The Morel MW168 (6.5") and the Vifa P21WO-20-08 (8") both looked like they might work well. Another idea I had was going with a couple Madisound 6204R-4 (6.5") wired in series using a D'Apollito design, though I have insufficient info on wiring two drivers in series; it seems that Qts changes to (Qms*Qes)/(2*Qms+Qes) due to a doubling of the Qes (this info I found only for DVC subs, so I'm not sure if/how it applies here). Also, I'd suspect each driver to be 6dB down for a combined change of nill... but not sure.
The Morel was the most appealing, but there was no FR graph for that driver, making me a bit wary. I love the idea of a large VC with a vented magnet inside... looks like a very precise and neutral driver. Also, most of their woofers seemed to have low efficiency.
