I have been one of those sinners who use the word "dampen" where I should have wrote "damp". I too twitch when someone uses an inaccurate word (eg/ their, there, they're; to, too... etc).I just looked it up the other day, in the LDC, and found I had been using the wrong term. I assure you it will not happen again. =)
