Well, I've given the Ultimo SWO XXX time, and plenty of it, coming up on 600 hours or so now.
The verdict?
Better, but still awful.
The midrange has cleared up quite a bit, with less of the fuzzy, wool-cover coloration I heard initially. The bass is slightly tighter, but still vague and imprecise overall.
This new outlet acts as a very strong tone control on connected equipement, as opposed to the more moderate euphony of the earlier version, which many (myself included) found helpful in dealing with less-than-stellar digital material. The "Ultimo" version just seems to take it all way too far. A system would have to be outrageously aggressive-sounding in the mids and treble for this outlet to be the answer, IMO.
If your goal is to make a low-fi Surround Receiver sound bearable, then this outlet might be a solution, but if you've got megabucks invested in high-rez gear, I just don't see how you can afford to put your system at such a disadvantage right "from the start".
