Power Cord Replacement Pioneer Elite Cd Player

134.197.29.182

I just purchased some Volex 17604 cords for upgrading some of my power cables. I would like to replace the cord on my Pioneer Elite PD-54 (essentially a PD-65) CD player; however it does not have an IEC connection. I am planning on cutting off the IEC end of the Volex and attaching it directly to the PD-54. I'll likely have to drill out the back of the player and get an appropriate strain relief.

My question is has anyone ever tried this on a Pioneer Elite or similar player - any things to watch out for or should I just break out the soldering iron? What should I do with the ground wire?

I'm not really savvy on these things but I can do a simple solder. If there is any chance of screwing things up I'd rather not try this.

Thanks in advance.
