Brass is used for this because it is less prone to non-conductive oxidation and is harder. The expensive ones mentioned, Cardas etc, are real copper.
I have been using some full sized Johnson branded non-coated brass 5 ways for 15 years or so. These are lab grade binding posts. They are perfect for the wire in the hole application you are seeking.
Beware of some of the cheaper posts. Many use steel washers on the insulators.
I have purchased units with Vampire and Cardas posts in the past. But never sprung the coin to purchase any.
The brass does have advantages, the oxidation is slight even after a couple of years. Real copper will be covered with blue and white crud fairly quickly in the petro-chemical haze I live in.George
