"Does anyone have some experience with spiking traps??"Yup. That would be me!!
I have all the corner traps sitting on 2 #10 grabber screws wound down into the carpet so as to make intimate contact with the cement floor. Also the top bracket is connected to the wall with the supplied L-bracket/screws. In a word, very solid and a good step towards making the traps more effective. When the Tekna-sonikcs are then mounted to the top plates of the traps, one can REALLY appreciate their effectiveness.
"I may try a gallon ziplock 3/4 full of sand to see if it might do something simular"
I have also gone down this route and it does help tighten the bass/soundstage BUT it is VERY slight. Worth a try though!
Cheers,
