Also, make sure the magnetic pads are securely aligned by feeling for the "click/lock" when you move the absorber around. U will know it when U feel it.
"Can you use brass cones to spike the traps? I'm thinking of buying a couple of sets from Mapleshade. Would this be as effective as screws?"I am sure they would. They might even be better than the screws! I use the #10 grabbers as they really grip the carpet when wound down to the cement and thus they don't move around at all.
As long as the bottom of the trap is firmly attached to the flooring under the carpet, if U have carpet, that is all that should be required. Also don't forget to attach the top L-bracket to one of the side walls if possible.
