They are beaten into submission with an endless barage of mind numbing dumb ass tweaks ranging from clock radios and brillant pebbles to putting items in the freezer and miracle outlet cover plates:) If anyone should dare to ask for any scientific reason why this stuff works everyone gangs up on them and runs them out of town over to the prop head forum where the polar opposite takes place.TubeDIY used to be a nice middle of the road place but has been dumbed down terribly as of late (although many felt it was full of cranky old men who demanded technical reasons for others claims). That is a real shame as it used to rock. Hi-eff speakers is pretty good still, but that might be because I know zilch about speakers and am easily impressed.
IMHO things need to meet a certain amount of criteria in each area. It isn't good enough for me if something sounds good but measures terribly. But I tend to stick to what I understand and fairly simple designs. Also I don't have money to waste and never ventured into insanely priced parts. I mean I have paid for grid chokes and titanium dome compression drivers but would never pay 10 bucks for a 1/2 watt resistor or several hundred dollars for a silver/teflon cap. But hey, each to their own. As long as the guy isn't putting such parts into a stock Dynaco or Jolida I ain't gonna argue.
