The only 3 problems with what you're proposing that I can think of are:1- the rear post blocks access to something. That's fixable by increasing the depth of the shelf, something you may have to do anyway to ensure there's space on each shelf for the component if you cut off the rear corners.
2- accessing the rear of components is going to be a pain with the shelf placed well into the corner. Make sure all interconnects are long so you can pull the components forward far enough to get at things.
3- corners are a great pace for strong bass tones so placing a rack there may cause vibration problems for the components.
If you go ahead with the idea, get a large sheet of paper and map out a shelf shape on it, then place your largest component on top of the shape and check out that things will fit and that the rear post isn't going to block anything. Better to waste some paper and get it right than to build and find that something isn't going to work because the shelf won't take the component because you cut off part of the corner where a rear foot of the component would go, or that the rear post isn't going to leave you with sufficient space for a connection.David Aiken
