Re: Soft recovery Ultra fast Diode replacement??'s

I have used both Cree and the FRED type. To my ears, I like the Cree's in tube equipment. I installed them in various tube amps and preamps with very good results. The sound was much more focused, background was blacker and dynamics seemed to be kicked up just a tad, perhaps to due to the quieter background.

Never had a problem with one blowing. I used the 4A and 6A 600V rated.

I have used the Ixys FRED rectifier bridges in my Adcom GFA-5500 and could not be more pleased. I simply used them because I didn't want to build a bridge out of the CREE's. The FRED types were an immediate improvement. I then upgraded the power supply caps to Nichicon Gold tune, even better results. If you have the room, consider upgrading a few of the power supply caps or bypass the current ones with a Multicap RTX or other film type.

Don't know why I am posting because I can't offer an apples to apples comparison, due to not trying both in each amp. For some reason I use Cree with tubes and FREDS with solid state with excellent results imo.

I think you will be happy with either. In the end, it is your money and ears that must be satisfied.
