Sometimes a duplex outlet will have one outlet always on and the other fed from a wall switch. They do this in rooms without ceiling light fixtures so you can plug a lamp into one outlet and control it from the switch.If so, do not use the switched circuit for your audio system: the switch and extra wiring associated with it will be sonically harmful even though it is safe.
