Mike, here re my 2cent's worth

TL074 in Rod Elliot (ESP in down-under) is a very good design, IMHO. While TL074 is a bit on the "old" side in the performance arena (3MHz bandwidth, with fair-good risetime). This chip is a fet-based input op amp that sounds warm, and betters most common bi-polar based Opamps by a large margin (e.g. 4558, 4560, etc.).

While there are quite a few interesting new options available on the market today such as my newfound joy AD-8620 and some BB OPA series, the problem with some of these chips is that they are not "casual" regular op amp replacements for ordinary workhorse grade stuff such as 4558/4560, etc. If you need to resort to using these, you will have to seriously conside rework your PCB boards for proper bypassing to keep everything under control (EMI/RFI, PSRR, component/layout induced self-oscillation(ringing), etc.) not a pretty task I must admin.

I would go by using some fairly high bandwidth Rubycon YZ caps for supply rail bypassing (blackgate has the bandwidth I need but the price is a bit on the "overkill" side; and Nichicon/United Chemicon is lean/dry sounding if used in supply rail bypass.....

for signal coupling/bypass, I like silmic and silmic II better. I haven't tried any Nichicon Muse yet citing the limited selection and availibility here.

*besides, I have far more experience with Elna audio-grade caps and Rubycon UL-ESR caps than I would with some European caps brand*

Films are good choice as signal coupling/bypassing due to very low DF but they can be a pita to deal with when space/cost are of main concern, and also some film caps take a eternal effort to burn-in before they sound properly...

Anyways, so much for the discussion on this subject. Hope you find the Guido Tent's posting useful...

Quest

p.s. audio designs and implementations are about delicate balance/synergy between all active/passive components to achieve the desirable sound. It is a good idea to begin your idea of "synergy" right from the prototype stage, auditioning various different audio components until you have achieved the sound you want.
