Personally, I wouldn't use a non-x2 cap without a fuse/breaker in the component/distribution box prior, and wouldn't choose to rely upon my house breakers. But its a (semi)free country, and folks are free to do as they wish. I've never heard of a failure of a 600vdc Auricap in an accross the line role, fwiw. I'm a belt and suspenders sort of a guy.
