parallel with the tableslots, a Bismeyer style fence can be put on it and it will do fine. Fine woodworking magazine has a ton of tune your tablesaw articles. If the saw itself cannot be tuned up then your best bet is a new saw.On a budget i would look at Grizzly, their quality has improved a lot over the years without significant price increases. Jet is a step up, delta is good if you can swing a unisaw, powermatic is even better. After that you are into the sliding table category, felder, laguna oliver....and the list goes on. How much do you want to sink into this? The other way to skin the cat is to turn the whole problem upside down. A good circular saw with a good blade and long guides can be used to make very accurate boxes. You can make very accurate guide by using the factory edge of a sheet of plywood or MDF. If you want to get a bit more fancy you can screw a foot on your guide using a piece 1/4 plywood. A couple of clamps and you are in business. If you also used your circular swa to trim the foot of your guide then the edge of the foot is exactly where the blade will cut the material thus measuring becomes a lot more easy.
