Flexy alternative?

I currently use two flexy tables to hold my gear (four maple cutting board shelves per flexy). The top shelves are not attached to the threaded rods by nuts: they rest on upward-facing points screwed into the ends of the threaded rods (I use point footers set into the undersides of these top shelves to keep them in place laterally). The use of the points for the top shelves dramatically reduces the vibrations that are quite noticeable on the other shelves, though you have to make sure not to lean on the shelves when poking around the back of the components.

I've been adding room treatments recently - two Risch bass traps, two Risch wall panels. I plan on building two ceiling-mounted, DIY diffusors (a la Skyline) made from styrofoam, if I can find a cheap source for styrofoam and tools to make accurate cuts. I also want to add a diffusor behind and in the center of the speakers (the wall panels are at the first-reflection points behind the speakers b/c of long-wall placement). As such, I want to lower the placement of my gear, so that the gear doesn't act as a reflection point for the tweeter and midrange. I intend to do this by spreading the gear out on three shorter racks. I want to use the maple shelves I already have on the flexy, and, since I'm going through this trouble again, I want a design that is better damped than the flexy.

I don't think I can use the flexy design, because all the racks will only have two attached shelves, and I've noticed that two shelves make for too flexy of a flexy (unstable). Are there any other DIY designs out there that I should be looking at and that allow me to use my maple shelves? If I hadn't already dropped a bundle on the shelves, I'd be building Lack racks.

Maybe there is a way to make legs between the racks using constrained layer damping techniques? What about tubes filled with sand and lead shot?

All suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
May the bridges we burn light our way....
