Some unemployed coffee cups or mugs are great for the experiment to demonstrate how lifting cables may clarify the bass and sound-stage, but whatever is used to lift cables should not contribute its own sonic signature.I had this problem when I experimented with glass prism blanks resting on wood blocks. With the glass simply resting on the wood, there was an annoying brightness. With the glass damped and cemented to the wood, the brightness went away. At least one aspect of lifter performance is mechanical vibration.
My present best recipe is posted below. These damped paper lifters have minimum dielectric involvement, are not good static generators, and have little sonic signature. They are so cheap to make that it is easy to support cables so that there are no long suspended sections, that can resonate on their own.
