The theory behind shorting plugs for un-used audio inputs is that it will prevent these inputs from picking up RFI. I don't know if the efficacy of this has been substantiated (verified that RFI is lurking everywhere and that it will cause deterioration in a unit's sonics if un-used inputs are left 'naked'). However, it certainly won't hurt to short these outputs and it will definitely keep out dust and help prevent corrosion. The easiest way to verify this would be to carefully listen to your reference CD's/LP's with the un-used inputs 'open', and then install the shorting plugs and listen again. Ditto for the video inputs, this time using hi-quality DVD'sHappy Listening !
