For inmates with USA electrical systems: dave c lives in Australia, where many of the power outlets come standard with on/off switches built in to the outlet devices. Some inmates in the USA may have switched outlets where the switches are on the wall next to the light switch, but most of the convenience outlets are unswitched and very few have integral switches.I agree that removing any connections in series with the outlets is a good thing to do, regardless of which electrical system one has.
