After 43 years of tinkering....solid core is the way to go.

I have run a lot of different wires in my DIY speakers. Currently my favorite internal speaker wire is AudioQuest type 4. I split this open, and you have a thick conductor for the lows and a thin conductor for the highs.

If you are running high current amps you can double or triple the insulated wires to get the capacity you require.
