In any case silver oxydise. Gold plate does not. Some of us can remember way back to the 70's and earlier then RCA plugs and jacks were nickel plated, no gold at all. Oxydation was a recurring aggravation particularly with the cables comming from turntable (low voltage, therefore more suseptable). There were various temporary cures but they had to be repeated. A real pain. Then came the first gold plated connectors -- this was a very be deal for the long suffering. As far as I'm concerned gold over copper is as good as it gets. Anything that can oxydize is step backward. All else is just a ploy to get you money.
(Just the opinion of an old geezer.)
