The machine Fountainhead uses is made by a company named Applied Cryogenics, Inc. Model CP-500vi, "vi" for vacuum insulated. A very efficient machine designed to use less LN2 than others.Alan is correct in that it is a vapor process wiht the added twist of also employing a heat exchanger. -300F is the lower limit of it's capabilites.
Fountainhead has been around for quite a while, if he's only charging $15 for a pair of interconnects, that certainly seems like a bargain! Certainly less than I can afford to do them for. I would venture a guess the same goes for Jena, or Ray,...or any of the others in the industry who own their own machines.
Ask him a couple of questions:
How long is the soak for that price?
Is the soak at -300F?
What's the cooldown rate?
How long does the return to ambient take? Then compare to others processes to decide for yourself if it is a good value.
Regards!
