True cryogenics is difficult to do at home.....

but an aircraft mechanic told me they cryo the landing gear axles of the Boeings by placing them in a large cooler packed with dry ice and then pouring a flask of liquid nitrogen into the cooler. They then seal the cooler with duct tape and then wait till the cooler reaches room temperature, about a week. Several caveats: don't splash the liquid mntrogen on your body, and don't leave the cooler in a confined space as nitrogen will displace oxygen and you can suffocate without realizing it till it's too late. About one or two people a year die from this in the laboratories across the country.....
You can still hear the effect on cables and such by simply using dry ice, although it is far from being true cryogenic temperatures. I've used -80C laboratory freezers and can still hear a positive effect.
