Everyone in the Asylum is confused, Jeffrey - it's just that some don't realise it! ;-))This question has provoked violently opposing posts previously. Your first para is absolutely correct. All the "top" amp's power is available for the HP signal; all the "bottom" amp's power is available for the LP signal.
My own belief is that your second para is also correct ... otherwise all that power being "wasted" in the passive crossover would have to be being converted to heat - which doesn't happen!
However, let's see what other answers you get!
