What I have found is that isolation seems to work better the closer to the component you can get it.
Whether this is because otherwise you get some noise from the stands I don't know. Its seems possible that a vibrating stand would produce "noise", but I am not equipped with a laboratory and have no means to measure such things.
It also often seems that its better to have one layer of isolation although if I have a large R & D department I might come up with a combination effect that is better, eg the Monaco rack that has up to 8 layers of seperation.
I have spent 6 years experimenting... and no, I don't mean as a full time job!!!... and I am using the results of these experiences here.
That gives me the best sound I can get.
I used to use concrete pavers, sand bags and all sorts of mass loaded things and although mass loading obviously does effect the sound, I prefer a faster leaner sound and find mass loading has a tendency to bloat the mid bass and hide the deep bass.
If you disagree, feel free, its your system.
Oh, I would consider Blu Tak to at least to a degree isolate to speakers from the stands, and I am certain it would "cushion" vibtration.
Wouldn't you?
