Re: Like fallin' off a log.......

All the pots, Alps, Noble, TKD, etc have the same layout.

Look at the pot with the six lugs pointing up and the stem that turns pointing toward you:

the rear-most left hand lug is right-channel hot in from the RCA

the rear-most right hand lug is right-channel out to the driver stage of the amp

the front right-hand lug is left channel in from the RCA

the front left-hand lug is out to the left-channel driver

(if you mix left and right in the amp 'cause of no schematic you can do over or just reverse the inputs or outputs. Or test with gator clips before you solder)

The 2 middle lugs are grounds. Bring the ground wire from the 2 RCA's to the input (away from you)side and right on through to the other lug tieing the 2 together and then to the amp input. Probably the amp uses shielded wire, co-ax maybe and you connect the ground to the shield. If not, and you can't figger which is the input ground, try attaching to the chassis. Or look for a place in the amp where several wires from neg terminals of capacitors converge. That's a star ground point.

If your broke Alps is still wired up, of course, you just copy the way it's wired now.
BTW, Radio Shack sells a little Alps pot with no plastic body for $2.95 which is at least the equal of the Noble but not as dark-sounding.Slightly different wire layout, tho'.
