Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

I am interested in building one or two subs for my HT area, and need some guidance on design. The catch is, instead of starting with a driver and building an enclosure around it, I have a couple of pre-existing enclosures into which I'd like to build the subs. The enclosures are 2 sealed wooden box frames, about 10"x20"x20" and 10"x40"x20" (internal dimensions). They are in a room that is about 23'x23'x9'. I will be listening to about 80% music (classical, rock, acoustic, and jazz) and about 20% movies.Any suggestions as to what I should be thinking about as far as drivers and design, or where I can find an algorithm to figure it out? I haven't been able to find anything on how to figure out what size drivers would be appropriate for such a setup. I am completely new to this, so anything complicated will likely end in disaster. I would like to spend no more than $500/sub (including the amp), the less the better. I am by no means an audiophile, so I do not need the highest quality parts. Thanks a bunch.
Greg
