Shelf Help

I currently have a very inexpensive 4 shelf rack; each stacking level consists of three triangulated legs of hollow, black metal tubing. Each of the legs ends in a spike which fits into a concave dimple on top of the legs below it. (Am I not confusing you enough?) Finally, the shelving material is 1/2" MDF,(actually seems more like a craft board, it's so light). Yeah, I know, buy a new rack, idiot! But not only am I cheap, I'm convinced that the right combination of your homespun ideas will transform this rack into a worthwhile keeper, if not also an eyesore. I'm willing to work with any combination of the 1/2" shelves I have, marble, granite, MDF, wood, vibrapods, inner tubes, sand, bubble wrap, stem cells, whatever. However, I would like to avoid costly spikes, (let's just say I like the pricepoint of vibrapods). My system is on a wood floor and consists of a Simaudio I-5 integrated(already on its own spikes), an EAR 834P, a Rega Planet CDP, and an LP-12. Thoughts on a wall shelf for the LP-12? Thanks for your suggestions!
