Buy a DVM, they don't cost that much @ Rat Shack. If you are satisfied with the current 'voicing' of your speakers and don't intend to move them or radically change the furnishings in the room I'd suggest that you consider using "fixed L-pads"by substituting resistor voltage dividers (L-pads have coiled resistance wire and are therefore INDUCTIVE (BAD NEWS). First, measure the resistance between pin 3 (input) & pin 2 (output) of the L-pad; then measure the resistance form pin 3 to pin 1 (Gd.) of the L-pad. The pins on the back of the L-pad are numbered 1-2-3 from left to right. Replace the L-pad resistances with Caddock (non-inductive) resistors, rated @ least 5- watts, from Percy. Connect the signal input to the R (R-1) = to the resistance from pin 3 to pin 2 and the output of this R to the speaker (dirver) input and the R (R-2) = to the resistance from pin 3 to pin 1 from the output of the first R to Gd. (which is the neg. terminal of the driver). This forms the classic "T" voltage devider with R-1 as the crossbar of the "T" and eliminates the inductance s of the L-pads. You may also want to mount the Caddock R's on a finned heatsink to dissipate heat and increase the wattage rating of the Caddocks.Be sure to insulate the metal tabs on the backs of the Caddocks from the heatsink.Happy Listening !
