Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |

I have the stuff to make Jon Risch's digital isolation filter (the two transformers from Rat Shack, a.1uf cap, need to get a large 63 VAC cap, can't find that at the Shack for sure!) As far as enclosures go, I grabbed one of the Shack's $10.00 flimsy metal enclosures (figured it was better to get metal than plastic for maybe a little bit of sheilding.) I know, not the greatest, but cheap and quick and it should be easy to cut out for a power cord and ac outlet. My question comes in regards to the power filter, which seems to need a bit of room to keep some parts seperated:What have some folks used, and what is the minimum internal dimesnions needed? The flimsy Rat Shack box is 8 1/4 by 6 1/8 by 3 1/16 inches. It is a bit flimsy, which makes me think of something else. The thin nature of the metal, though, would make it easier to cut and drill. I don't have a workshop, live in a NYC studio apartment. If the power filter looks a bit funky and "homebrewed", that's ok. Function first.
I noticed that Parts Express has some decent looking metal project boxes.
Also keeping my eyes out for any sort of electronics/computer power supply box that someone may be tossing.
