What struck me is saying, "Strictly from the standpoint of technical neutrality...", which seems undisputedly objective.And that rather ties in to what I'd said to avian above.
We can't directly experience the recording. The recording "as intended" was made based on the output of the various "filters" that constituted the the electronics, loudspeakers and acoustical environment of the recording studio and mastering suite.
If we define techincal neutrality as objective accuracy, then if we were able to produce an objectively perfect audio reproduction system, what we ultimately would experience would be neither that of the actual event which was recorded, nor that of what was intended by the producers of the recording.
