Tweakers' Asylum Tweaks for systems, rooms and Do It Yourself (DIY) help. FAQ. |
|
Hi! I need your help. Just completed CARA analysis of my room, and the bottom line is: "Too long reverberation times, colored midrange- need treatment for the back wall and first reflection points". I completely agree, that was my subjective listening impression as well.
Now it's pretty clear that I need to make some DIY acoustic panels, John Risch recipe. Have a few questions, though:
1) What construction of the panel will serve the purpose of absorbing mid- and high frequency waves better? My understanding of CARA suggestion for "long reverberation times" correction is it to be restricted to Mid- High frequency range only. I would prefer to use semi- rigid fiberglass panels, like Owens Corning 703, instead of "regular" fiberglass.
For bass correction I will be using PARC analog equalizer, so I don't have to worry about the range below 300 Hz.
2) should the frame be open in the back?, or should I cover it with peg board or a fiberglass screen? I'm planning to mount panels about 6" from the wall.
3) On the back wall (behind the speakers) I have permanently mounted front projection screen, so the panels will have to be mounted on the sides and under the screen, and I will cover the screen with some heavy drapes. Will that be a sub-optimal solution not to have absorption on the wall in between the speakers?
Appreciate your expertise in advance. Regards.
