Well shucks

I was just parroting a fella who'd told me abt. diode heating... Seemed logical enough.... But what I wonder, is why the PCB trace should be any better at conducting and dissipating the heat vs. the lead? The traces are typically (assuming a 1A part) probably no (or not much) larger than the lead wire, in equivalent awg.... I'd think that the free air nature of the flying arrangement would allow the heat to dissipate out of the package better. You've obviously done much more with this than I have, I'm just sharing my intuition here.
