I didn't realize until now that my post didn't contain size specifics.My favorite size balls in my system are 3/4". While 1/2" balls gave me slightly better bass, they were significantly noisier than 3/4". I know a lot of the noise was due to bearing surface imperfections (the dish surface), especially since others have found 1/2" to be optimum with commercial and precision made rollers. Some part of the noise that was associated with smaller balls in my system, however, might be attributed to chatter, since a larger ball rotates less for any given amount of component displacement.
