(we're not allowed to use brand names here)This is not the case, if you wish to report your subjective impressions on an audio cable, it would be helpful if the readers knew the names of the cable they were compared against.
Where there can be a problem when referring to brand names, is when someone trashes a brand outright, without any apparent reason or basis in actual exprience.
As an unrelated example, some folks like to bash Ford for reliability, citing the lame 'Fix Or Repair Daily' mantra. However, in some cases, they have never even owned a Ford product, instead chosing to believe 'common knowledge' or anecdotes from strangers who might have been waiting for the oil to be "all used up" before they put in some fresh oil.
However, if a Ford owner who religiously maintenanced their car had some comments on the brands reliability, or wanted to compare it's cornering ability with a Chevy, this is a different situation.
BTW, I have no vested interest in the above example, and am merely using it as an example, period.
